In keeping with Insomniac’s track record, the music behind it all is stellar, with Miles’ and Peter’s respective signature tunes playing depending on who you’re controlling. A highlight, though, is the theme that follows in Kraven’s footsteps, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Howard Shore’s Uruk-hai war march from The Lord of the Rings score. It soundtracks a world that looks stunning, even when played in performance mode at a stable 60fps as I did for most of my playthrough.

Despite its problems at launch, the PC port of Spider-Man 2 does have one big upside for gamers on the platform. Starting with Spider-Man 2, Sony has decided to do away with the controversial PSN account requirement with some of its games on PC. Those that want to unlock Spider-Man 2’s trophies and enjoy the various other benefits that come with the PlayStation overlay will still want to sign in, but it’s no longer forced. To encourage PC gamers to sign in to a PSN account, Sony is offering bonus incentives in its PC ports, with Spider-Man 2 letting players unlock the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit early.
Nixxes Software is working alongside Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games to develop and optimise the game’s PC version. There will be no shortage of games to play in January, but don’t count on any spectacular launches. With users able to pre-download the digital game prior to its release, they will be able to play the game as soon as it’s available for play in the PlayStation store. For fans of the first game, or Spider-Man, or action games in general, Spider-Man 2 is an easy recommendation. There are about five dozen teasers and easter eggs by the end so I’m sure we’re in for more, whether that’s another Miles-sized game or another sequel down the road. But for now, yes, this is all the Spider-action you need for a good long while.
It’s been almost five years since the original hit the shelves, and players are desperate for any slither of information. Other big fixes include fixing a crash that happened while quitting Spider-Man 2 too quickly after starting it and another that involved a crash that would happen on quadcore processors after turning ray tracing on. It’s already a great-looking game, though now that it is on PC, players will likely want to push Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to its limits. This new update works to make this possible, with another fix addressing an annoying issue with brightness, contrast, and other visual effects that caused them to reset. A few missions later, Peter, with his symbiote suit, helps Miles Morales track down the Lizard, but the younger Spider-Man realizes that his friend is not quite himself. Peter goes to take down the lizard himself, and succeeds, but Miles is captured by Hunters, leading Peter to go to save him and vow to kill Kraven the Hunter.
Venom also appeared for a brief moment in the reveal trailer, and again in the more recent Story Trailer too. And while we know Peter will be able to wield Symbiote powers at some stage, there’s no telling if Venom himself will eventually join forces with the spidey duo, perhaps uniting against the common threat of Kraven The Hunter. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man game without the man of the hour, Peter Parker. Players will reprise the role of Spidey in Insomniac’s sequel, stepping into the shoes of the friendly neighborhood hero – though he won’t be alone. Kraven the Hunter is the main villain for most of Spider-Man 2 and he isn’t anywhere near interesting or dynamic enough to be in that role. The most interesting part of his section of the game is the symbiote. It takes a very long time for Venom to show up, some would say too long, but he steals the show the second he does.
